What is a painting commission?
When it comes to art, a commission is the process of asking an artist to create a piece of artwork that meets certain requirements or specifications, including design, color scheme, and size.
What is your art style?
I create a variety of paintings that include landscapes and designs inspired by meaningful subjects, and I use techniques like watercolor and oil painting to bring them to life. It's crucial to become acquainted with my artwork, and you can do so by browsing my Sold Arts or Digital Artworks section, as well as by following my Instagram account, @francis_deschamps_art.
What details will you need?
To ensure a smooth consultation process for your custom piece/s, please have the following information ready when you contact me:
- Size: Determine the exact dimensions of the painting you desire, and measure the area where you plan to hang it.
- Design & Color Palette: Decide on the subject matter of the painting, and browse my previous works for inspiration. Note that I cannot recreate sold works exactly, but can make adjustments as needed. Feel free to send me photos or visions of the colors you like, and a picture of your interior space so I can suggest suitable shades and tones. I will also provide sketches for your consideration before starting the commission.
- Framing (optional): Let me know if you want your commissioned painting to be framed, and I can check for pricing and availability. Please note that the framing cost is separate.
What is the payment process?
Before starting commissioned artwork, a non-refundable down payment of 50% is required once the design has been approved. After completion of the painting and receiving your approval, the remaining 50% payment and shipping fee must be paid before delivery. You will receive photo updates during the painting process.
*Once the commission process has commenced, it is important to note that cancellation or withdrawal is no longer allowed.
How will I receive my artwork?
The shipping fee will be calculated according to the size and weight of the order after it has been packaged. However, you can ask me for a quote from any of the couriers if you want.
Working together
Hello! I am currently seeking a subject and main color scheme to use as inspiration for my next work of art.
To allow for maximum creativity, I prefer a general idea over excessive specific requests. On average, I take approximately one month to complete a watercolor commission and 2 to 3 months for an oil painting commission. This time frame encompasses the entire process, from initial concepts and sketches to the finished product, including drying time which can be a lengthy process for oil paintings.
